Today marks the shortest day of the year and the longest night. From this day until Midsummer, the days will grow longer. This is acknowledged and celebrated throughout many cultures. In Celtic tradition, the Winter Solstice was a time of rebirth and renewal, as signified by the return of the sun. Annually, my family lights up the darkest night with a bonfire and the warmth and light of good friends. No matter what your tradition, this is a lovely opportunity to reflect on the year past and set intentions for the year ahead.
We have a few schedule changes to reflect the holiday weeks ahead. There will be no 6pm class on Monday Dec 21, Thursday Dec 24 and Thursday Dec 31. There will be no classes on Christmas day Dec 25 and New Year’s day Jan 1. Our online class schedule will reflect these changes. Please consult if uncertain.
In my last post, I mentioned a book club. I have chosen Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World by Michelle Johnson. This book asks readers to explore the deeply transformational practice of yoga, and become social change agents so that they can create a world that is just for all. It explores liberation for ourselves and others, while asking us to engage in our own agency, whether that manifests as activism, volunteer work, or changing our relationships with others and ourselves.
The book club will meet for 5 consecutive Sundays beginning Jan 3 and ending Jan 31. We will meet via zoom at 4pm. The cost to participate is $25. I have 9 books available in the boutique for $15 if you do not already own it. I am so excited to begin this journey with you!
To a joyful present and a well remembered past.
Best wishes for a happy holiday and a magnificent New Year!
As 2020 winds down, let’s make this a month to remember! Set aside time to care for your tender heart as the holidays may not look like they have in years past. Tune in to simple pleasures. Try a new recipe. Read a good book. Go for a hike and breathe in the beauty that surrounds you. Put on some Christmas music and dance in your kitchen. Simmer cinnamon sticks, cloves and orange peel in a pot of water on the stove and let it scent the air. There are so many ways to infuse a little happiness into your life.
At the studio, I have filled the boutique with an assortment to delight the senses! Hand stitched vintage textile throws. Therapeutic comfort wraps. Whimsical earrings. Bracelets with a message. Sage and selenite. Plus my personal fave, rose hydrosol face mist! There is a little something for everyone. And now, thanks once again to my amazing husband, Nourish has an online boutique that can be accessed from the website! Simply shop online and pick up your lovingly packaged purchases curbside. Gift certificates are also available!
Equally filled is our calendar with workshops to support you in ease this holiday season.

The finally offering is looking ahead to January. I am hosting a 5 week book club. The book we will be reading and discussing via zoom is Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World by Michelle Johnson. Skill in Action asks you to explore the deeply transformational practice of yoga as a way to become an agent of social change and work toward a just world. Through yoga practices and philosophy, this book explores liberation for ourselves and others, while asking us to engage in our own agency–whether that manifests as activism, volunteer work, or changing our relationships with others and ourselves. The first meeting will be January 3rd. I will be sending out further details, but this allows you to purchase the book in advance…or maybe put it on your wish list! 😉
It has been a challenging year. Due to your support, our community remains strong and our doors open. I am so grateful for you!
From me and mine, we wish you a holiday season filled with peace and blessings.
This is a season where we cultivate and acknowledge gratitude. It may feel more challenging than years past, but I am confident we can all find a few things. Our health. A roof over our heads. Food in our bellies. Our yoga community.
I, for one, am grateful for YOU! Your continued support keeps the doors open during this pandemic. You, showing up again and again, inspires others to do the same and through this action, our community grows, deepens, becomes richer and more connected. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
There are a few things I want to share with you.
Firstly, if you have travelled out of New England over the holidays or been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 or are experiencing symptoms, please stay home and attend virtual classes for 14 days or 7 days with a negative Covid test. This assures that Nourish can continue to be a safe place for us to gather!
Please note these schedule changes. The Wednesday night By Donation class and all classes on Thursday are cancelled. Our usual schedule resumes on Friday. If you would like to turn Friday’s class into a workshop, join us directly after the 9am Classical Yoga class to combine breath, movement, visualization and the element of fire to gain clarity and invite inspiration. Tune in to what your heart needs and how best to support yourself in the holiday season. Only $15! Sign up here.
On Small Business Saturday, November 28, we will be offering a ONE DAY ONLY sale! Buy 2 months of passes, get the 3rd month 50% off! This applies to all Yoga AND Yoga Trapeze passes! These can be given as gift certificates also.

Wishing you mindfulness to appreciate the gift around you.
I’m so excited to share that Embrace Yoga’s Roots: Courageous Ways to Deepen Your Yoga Practice – is now LIVE! Written by my mentor, Susanna Barkataki, she invites you to embrace a deeper understanding of yoga by exploring the history and injustices contributing to the separation experienced when a yoga practice ignores traditions. Then, learn how to embody that understanding using the tools and resources she offers, guiding your practice toward a more honorable, inclusive, and liberated yogic state.
It is such an honor to support Susanna in sharing this amazing resource!
Tomorrow is a big day and no matter what the outcome, there will be challenges. It’s going to be uncomfortable. As yogis, we know how to sit in discomfort. We know how to return to center. We know how to tap into our breath and be present to whatever is unfolding. And when we forget all that we know we can forgive ourselves. We can offer ourselves grace. We can be gentle with ourselves. Sip tea. Bake. Take a nap. Or a bath. Or both.
This month, I have curated a series of offerings to support you…the gentle wisdom of Lisa Wagner, a journeying class, tapping into intuition through the brow/3rd eye chakra, and a Black Friday alternative to mass consumerism.
Peace and Poetry Sunday, Nov 15 3pm $25
Autumn is the season of the soul. Join Lisa Wagner of Sierra Sky Energy Work as she presents an afternoon of Peace & Poetry. In this 90 minute, candlelit workshop, we’ll create an embodied form of meditation that supports self-awareness, reflection and healing. Like the practices of yoga and meditation, poetry invites us to gently move away from over-thinking and over-analyzing towards feeling, sensing and just ‘being’. Experience the powerful synergy of yoga, poetry, reiki and sound as Lisa guides you into restorative postures and a state of ‘relaxed awareness’. You will leave feeling more centered, rested and inspired. Sign up here.
Journeying Monday, Nov 16 7:30pm $15
Learn how to shamanic journey & explore the path to your imagination. Shamanic journeying, in this context, is a form of guided meditation that puts you in touch with helping spirits and allows you to explore memories, places, the imagination, and the Self to promote health and creativity. Whether you’re completely new to the practice or an experienced journeyer, this session is welcoming for you. Sign up here.
Brow/Third Eye Chakra Workshop Friday, Nov 20 6 pm $25
Join Sheri as she leads us in exploring the Brow or 3rd eye chakra. This chakra is known as the control center because it focuses on cultivating a strong and independent mind by tapping into our intuition. This chakra helps us identify what we need to create happy and wholesome lives and provides the energy to expand our inner picture of how we see ourselves and the world. Sign up here.
Black Friday Add on Class Friday, Nov 27 10:15am $15
This class was born out of a conversation with Jessica Leff of Parker Mountain Comfort Wraps, in which we felt a desire to “bring our hearts together”. Join us directly after the 9am Classical Yoga class to combine breath, movement, visualization and the element of fire to gain clarity and invite inspiration. Tune in to what your heart needs and how best to support yourself in the holiday season. Sign up here.
I hope that you see something in this email that sparks interest, curiosity, even hope. I am here for you. It is my absolute desire to hold space for your healing, your personal growth, your solace.
October is my favorite month! Maybe that is because it’s my birthday month (lol) or that I love dressing up on Halloween (Samhain), but I think it goes deeper than that. Life feels vital and urgent to me in Fall. Leaves are falling off the trees. Days are getting shorter. We have harvested the last of our gardens in preparation for the first hard freeze. We have stacked the wood and winterized all the things. We are in the frenzy of ready-making. This preparation is as old as time. Did you know that Samhain, a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, shows up in literature from about the 10th century on! No wonder we feel drawn to preparation, dressing up and honoring our ancestors at this time. It’s in our bones! This weekend, we have some fun offerings to welcome the season! Brenna will teach Ashtanga on Saturday at 8am and I am subbing for Sheila on Sunday. Both of these classes are in studio, as well as zoomed. Plus……..
Saturday, come and hang with the undead! Join Chelsea’s 10am Yoga Trapeze class! Connect with Spirit and your ancestors. Allow them to guide and support you in self-care moving into the holiday months. Costumes encouraged. There will be some time at the end of class for photos. $25 for a drop in or 4 classes for $90.

I have lots up my sleeve for next month too! Look for another post next week with all the exciting details. Enjoy your weekend! Be loving. Be kind. To yourself. To others. Especially when they don’t look, act or vote like you. Especially then.
We are firmly entrenched in October. Election day is looming. Covid numbers are up and the days are getting shorter. That’s enough to throw anyone out of sorts! How are you? Stop and take a deep breath. Check in with yourself. It is natural to notice some apprehension, or feel some tension in the body. Take a moment to extend compassion to yourself. These are challenging times. BUT you have everything you need to move through them with grace and ease. You have yoga.
Patanjali teaches us that by restraint of the fluctuations in our mind, we will experience yoga or union; self-realization. This restraint is developed through practice and non-attachment…through asana (poses) and pranayama (breath work)…through self-inquiry and meditation. These tools allow the space for self knowledge and as we deepen our relationship with Self, we can more lovingly meet our needs.
I am reaching out today to remind you that Nourish is a resource you can use to manage your Self-care. We offer classes 7 days a week, all via zoom and most in person. We disinfect the studio after every class and strictly adhere to Covid protocols. We offer discounted rates for teachers, students and seniors. We continue to offer 2 By Donations classes a week. It is more important than ever in these divisive times to feel part of something… a sense of belonging. I want to invite you to return to shala, the Sanskit word for home, to be in community with us.
We are closing the month out with 2 fun events!
Sunday October 25 12-3pm Join Jess Waters for Ancestral Journeying! In this session, learn to use journeying (guided meditation) to seek health and wholeness through understanding and developing our relationship to our ancestors. Ancestral veneration is humankind’s oldest and most widespread spiritual practice, yet many of us in the West are displaced from relationship with or even knowledge of our ancestors. Let’s change that! $55 Sign up here.
