Happy Solstice!

Today marks the shortest day of the year and the longest night. From this day until Midsummer, the days will grow longer. This is acknowledged and celebrated throughout many cultures. In Celtic tradition, the Winter Solstice was a time of rebirth and renewal, as signified by the return of the sun. Annually, my family lights up the darkest night with a bonfire and the warmth and light of good friends. No matter what your tradition, this is a lovely opportunity to reflect on the year past and set intentions for the year ahead.

We have a few schedule changes to reflect the holiday weeks ahead. There will be no 6pm class on Monday Dec 21, Thursday Dec 24 and Thursday Dec 31. There will be no classes on Christmas day Dec 25 and New Year’s day Jan 1. Our online class schedule will reflect these changes. Please consult if uncertain.

In my last post, I mentioned a book club. I have chosen Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World by Michelle Johnson. This book asks readers to explore the deeply transformational practice of yoga, and become social change agents so that they can create a world that is just for all.   It explores liberation for ourselves and others, while asking us to engage in our own agency, whether that manifests as activism, volunteer work, or changing our relationships with others and ourselves.

The book club will meet for 5 consecutive Sundays beginning Jan 3 and ending Jan 31. We will meet via zoom at 4pm. The cost to participate is $25. I have 9 books available in the boutique for $15 if you do not already own it. I am so excited to begin this journey with you!
